Our Rotwandalm
A little bit of family in the mountains
High up in the idyllic Windau Valley, at an altitude of 1,597 metres, lies our family-run Rotwandalm. It is a special place where alpine life remains unspoilt, the hospitality is warm and the food is genuinely homemade.
From June to October, Carola – the sister of our manager Rosi – runs the alp with great heart and passion. Whilst she looks after the catering and the production of our own alpine specialities, the alp herdsman ensures the animals’ welfare.
Anyone who makes the journey up to the Rotwandalm on foot or by (e-)bike will be rewarded with magnificent mountain scenery, authentic Tyrolean alpine tradition and a well-deserved break.
A place to arrive at, enjoy and want to stay in.

Genuinely homemade. Genuinely Alpine.
The Rotwandalm is a popular destination for walkers, mountain bikers and e-bikers. After a strenuous outing, a well-deserved break awaits at the top, featuring homemade alpine produce, a hearty snack and genuine Tyrolean hospitality.
At the Rotwandalm, they still produce their own goods. Using fresh alpine milk, Carola draws on her wealth of experience and craftsmanship to make butter, cheese, buttermilk and our widely renowned Graukäse.
You can sample the homemade alpine products right there on the spot and, of course, buy some to take home. The Graukäse, in particular, is an absolute must-try during a visit – and if you fancy something a bit stronger, you certainly shouldn’t miss out on Carola’s homemade Zirberler.
Open from June to October | Closed on Wednesdays
Stop off for a cosy break, enjoy regional alpine specialities and let your gaze wander over the surrounding mountains – sometimes that’s all you need.

Experience alpine life up close
Cows and heifers, alpine pigs, as well as our Black-Nosed sheep and goats spend the summer at the Rotwandalm. Up here, the animals, nature and the daily work on the alpine pasture go hand in hand as a matter of course, offering an authentic insight into genuine Tyrolean alpine life.
