Alpine cattle drives & Alpine festivals

Living tradition and a festive atmosphere

As summer slowly draws to a close in the Begen, one of the most beautiful traditions of the year begins in the Brixental: the cattle drive down from the alpine pastures. These usually take place on the third weekend in September, though in some cases they are still celebrated in the region on the last weekend of September.
After an accident-free summer on the alpine pastures, festively decorated cows return from the alpine pastures to the valley. Wearing artistically designed headdresses, with bells ringing and accompanied by the farmers’ families, the animals make their way through the villages back to their home barns.
